Hey internet, how are things? Hope the spring is treating you well so far.

In keeping with the season, it’s raining quite a bit here in Netcetera and Myosin’s home city of New York. The real storm is coming next week however as just one week after our last coverage of ETH Denver, we brace ourselves for a whirlwind of NFT NYC side events all over town. Meanwhile, online, everyone is swept up in the whirlwind that is the memecoin frenzy: to some big brains, a fuel for new ideas; to others, a lack of them.

A fist fight between meme chains

A fight is about to go down for the #1 meme chain.

In the red corner, it’s this bull run’s reigning champion: Solana.

In the blue corner, it’s the upstart, fresh outta surgery (Dencun) and more dangerous than ever: Base.

Let’s cut now to the ceremonial weigh-ins and see how each stacks up…

SOL’s Pros:

• Stupidly fast

• Stupidly cheap

• So easy to use your idiot nephew could navigate it.
  
  …and he doesn’t even know how to tie his shoes (I know he’s only 6 months old, but let me have this one — I’m trying to make a point…)

SOL’s Cons:

• Drops transactions constantly

• Sporadically goes down once every 6-12 months

• Its economics suck (i.e. it has pretty heavy year-on-year inflation)

BASE’s Pros:

• Also stupidly fast (though SOL wins out slightly)

• Also stupidly cheap (though SOL wins out slightly)

• Has a silly amount of money on its network compared to Solana (by proxy of Ethereum).

BASE’s Cons:

• Costs an arm and a leg to move funds onto ($50+, unless you move it via Coinbase, in which case it’s cheap but can be slow, up to 20 mins+).

• Is in competition to win users from the 10+ other big name ETH L2’s, so if your L2 meme coin of choice ain’t on BASE, you’re outta luck.

• Figuring out how to navigate all of that ☝️ can be daunting as hell!
  This adds friction to the process of making quick n’ thoughtless gambles (the bread n’ butter of meme coin gains).

Now here’s the fix:

Don’t let the boxing analogy fool you! This ain’t a zero sum game. If one fails, it doesn’t necessarily mean the other will succeed (and vice versa).

Just remember to protect yourselves at all times.

(And touch gloves if you want to).
