❤️ Streetwear & Web3: In Perfect Harmony

How Harmony-NY is using NFTs as ‘keys to the front door’ of their studio...

I imagine many of our subscribers’ time will be limited as they run around the five (well, likely just two or three) burroughs for NFT NYC, but I want to make sure you click through to this week’s excellent read. It’s one I’m particularly excited about because (1) it touches on the meeting of irl and url – the so-called “phygital” realm – in crypto and (2) it’s Netcetera first print interview!

Refraction co-founder and Myosin.xyz member Raf Katigbak has been in the editorial game for quite some time and that shines through in ‘Pattern Language,’ featuring his conversation with the founders of web3-powered streetwear brand Harmony-NY out today on our website. Speaking of Refraction, I hope to see you at their party tonight at Public Records (full disclosure: my other place of work) with DJ’s including living legend Benji B.

Until then – read on for Chevy’s intro to this fascinating look into the future of fanatical fashion.

Streetwear & Web3: In Perfect Harmony

Do you have a couple in your life that you sometimes look at and think:

“Man, they’ve got it figured out!”

(It’s the same sentiment your annoying cousins have when they all of a sudden mutter “couple goals” in unison, halfway through an episode of Love Is Blind…)

Yeah, well — that’s sort of how we feel about streetwear and Web3 technology. The two are undeniably made for each other.

On one hand, you have a global collective of sneakerheads, who are addicted to exclusivity and have a Pavlovian response when a label utters the words “limited run.”

On the other, you have Web3 technology — the first of its kind to universally bring scarcity and exclusivity into the digital world.

Most streetwear labels are taking the NFC-chip-embedded-clothing route, which makes sense — bridge the divide between digital and physical scarcity (go off, kings).

But Kenzo Nakamura and Tim Nolan's Harmony-NY label is taking a different (less labor intensive, but equally valuable) route. Instead of embedding physical NFC chips into their clothes, Kenzo and Tim are using NFTs to guide the decision making and social coordination behind their label.

Harmony-NY is using NFTs as ‘keys to the front door.’

Here’s what that means:

If you’re an aspiring streetwear designer, the Harmony-NY NFT gets you invites to their design studio, where you can participate in design discussions, and learn the processes required to take a streetwear label from zero, to one.

…or if you’re simply a fan of their wears, you get early access to new drops — streetwear and Web3…man, they’ve got it figured out!

Myosin’s Raf Katigbak sat down for an extended chat with Kenzo and Tim, which we highly recommend you check out!
