Hi, Rowan here (kind of).

I must extend my sincerest apologies for not being able to personally craft this introduction for you. I had to step away for a bit to attend a much-needed dog training appointment! In my stead, I've asked Chevy to hand the reins over to one of our robot interns, giving it full freedom to lead the charge on this here intro.

Crypto wallets are evolving, fast! And no one is talking about it. At least, not like they should be. Onboarding into crypto is now nothing more than a click and a FaceID confirmation, whilst the list of things to explore once you’re set up is expanding rapidly.

Today, we’ll be exploring what those advancements look like, and how they relate to you as a user.

The crypto wallet renaissance

Help! We’re shaking with excitement and can’t get up!

Crypto wallets are having a moment right now. And it feels like not enough people are talking about it.

So we’re going to take on the responsibility.

Here’s what you might have missed:

1. Smart wallets are a thing now
   
   Coinbase’s new smart wallet allows users to one-click sign up/in with nothing but FaceID, allows developers to subsidize gas fees down to zero, and bridges between different chains automatically when needed.
   

2. Competition is breeding innovation
   
   Once the Ethereum ecosystem announced it was getting smart wallets, it took maybe a week (?) for Solana to follow suit. Soon, smart wallets will be a standard across all chains that want to compete with ETH and SOL.
    

3. MetaMask Portfolio added a blockchain gaming directory
   
   You know that deflated feeling you see your friends get?
   
   You know, once they’ve gone through the arduous process of onboarding into crypto and asked “Ok, now what? What can I do with this?”
   
   …only for you to answer “Buy, hold, stake, and lend crypto.”
   
   It’s a bit of an anti climax.
   
   Well, now they can explore a range of web3 gaming titles right from within MetaMask Portfolio!

Finally we can onboard our friends and family, without needless friction, and introduce them to a range of fun gaming applications.

That’s a solid recipe for adoption if we’ve ever seen one!
